Love Canal Video Part 2

1.) What caused the toxic waste to begin being pushed to the surface?
2.) What are some of the health hazards associated with the chemicals dumped there?
3.) Besides humans how are other parts of the ecosystem affected by this?

  1. 1: There was a blizzard (The Blizzard of 1977) and it brought a very long wet season. Because of all this precipitation, it went underneath the pit that was covered and pushed the chemicals, the dioxin, the waste, up towards the surface.

2: Health Hazards that were included were cancer (any type of internal cancer), birth defects, and liver disease.

3: Well, several parts of the ecosystem were effected. The chemicals forced up towards the surface could cause rapid growth in plants, pollution of ground water, killing of animals, and other deadly effects. Where the pit was dug, plants grew very slowly, and if they did grow, it died in a few years.
